AMBA Benefits

Here are a few of the many benefits the Association of Military Banks of America brought to military banks in recent years:

• AMBA led a coalition of banks and other associations in the successful effort to convince DoD to drop its published proposals to ban ATM surcharges and implement price controls over banking services offered by financial institutions on military installations. This was a big win!

• AMBA and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service worked together to assure a smooth Y2K transition for military pay direct deposits. Another important effort!

• AMBA continued an active and mutually beneficial relationship with other key associations (e.g., the American Bankers Association, the Independent Community Bankers of America, and the Defense Credit Union Council) to assure their assistance when working issues of mutual interest.

• AMBA worked directly with the military departments to solve a number of issues and to assure our members were the first to learn of installations seeking to open banks on military installations.

• AMBA continued to be proactive in its oversight of the Armed Forces Financial Network (AFFN®), the ATM/POS network it co-founded with the Defense Credit Union Council. The network now processes approximately 15 million transactions each month!

• AMBA’s annual workshop again gave bankers the opportunity to meet personally with the government decision makers overseeing military banking and provided the military departments with an appropriate forum to recognize their military “Bank of the Year” award winners.

• AMBA maintained an active liaison with DoD, the U.S Treasury, the FDIC and other government organizations to assure the voice of the military banker was heard.

• AMBA established relationships with a select group of commercial firms providing products and services to enhance bank operations and improve customer service.

The association will continue to be proactive to assure the voice of the Military Banker is heard.
