What DoD is Doing to Get You BRS Ready

Part 7 of The DoD Blended Retirement System: Leading up to the Decision

screen-shot-2016-09-30-at-11-14-10-amThe Department of Defense is busy getting information, resources, tools, and training out about the new Blended Retirement System (BRS).  2017 will be the year that DoD, along with trusted partners and collaborators, will engage and educate the military community on the new BRS.

The military community as a whole, all levels of leadership to the newest enlistee, needs to be equipped with all the information they can get their hands on.  There is a choice to be made for those in Service between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2017.  They can choose switch to the Blended Retirement System starting on 1 January 2018 or stay on the current retirement plan, High 36. It is not an easy choice to make and virtually everyone’s situation will be different.

The DoD is diligently working to develop and promote the tools and education for the BRS and will continue to update and provide more as 2017 approaches.  Currently, all resources can be found at http://militarypay.defense.gov/BlendedRetirement/

So far, the leader training is offered on the Joint Knowledge Online system and can be accessed by anyone, without a Common Access Card.  Also, just last week the DoD released a power point presentation as an introduction to the Blended Retirement System.  On Facebook, the Assistant Secretary of Defense – Manpower & Reserve Affairs held a Q&A session.  The conversation from that event can be found here.
