Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa has named #1 Resort Spa in North America by readers of Conde Nast Traveler.  It is also known as San Diego’s Premier Golf Resort – just minutes from everything that makes San Diego one of the nation’s most popular travel destinations.

Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa is located just a bit inland, between laid-back San Diego and the trendy Orange County, and you’ll discover a great little secret: Rancho Bernardo Inn, set in 265 acres of undulating, tree-dappled hills. The residential setting is bucolic, and you don’t even have to sacrifice sunshine. In fact, you’ll enjoy better weather here, since you don’t get the fog rolling in off the ocean.

The Rancho’s roots are deep in the beginning of our nation’s history – from the conquistadors who paused here as they searched for new wealth for Spain, to the Battle of San Pasqual in 1846 – the climax of the struggle of the young United States of America to bring California into the Union. It felt the moccasin feet of the padres, from the Mission of San Diego, and their converts as they tended grapes and herded cattle in its rich valleys and fertile hills.

Dining: The Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa is a rewarding experience.  There are two distinct choices for your ideal dining, El Bizcocho and The Veranda El Bizcocho was recently named the Critic's Choice for "Best of the Best" by San Diego Magazine and voted the city's highest-rated restaurant by the Zagat Survey.  At The Veranda, dining is in a casual comfortable setting and French brasserie dishes are prepared under the same executive chef as the renowned El Bizcocho restaurant.  Nearby you'll find La Bodega, Rancho Bernardo Inn's sports bar featuring plasma televisions, billiards and darts along with a selection of beers, cocktails and appetizers.

Golf:  The 18-hole Championship Golf Course is resort golf at its best and they’ve hosted both a PGA and LPGA event.  Perhaps best of all, the first tee is just steps from the lobby – so you’re hitting the links within minutes of checking in.

The Spa: The newly remodeled spa at Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa is a lush, garden oasis - complete with temperature-controlled outdoor-treatment casitas, outdoor fireplaces, relaxing water features and sunning lounges.  The spacious spa garden is the perfect place to extend your visit, unique among San Diego resort spas.

Reservations:  A special conference rate of $199 (US $) single/double occupancy for a Run of House Guest Room is available to all AMBA Workshop attendees and companions.  The room rate is exclusive of applicable state and local taxes (currently 10.65% per room, per night).  The hotel cannot guarantee bed-type or sleeping room location but will certainly do their best to accommodate all requests.

For government travelers, a limited number of hotel rooms will be offered at the Federal Government Per Diem rate to participants traveling on the Federal Government Per Diem.  The hotel rate is $147 per night plus the applicable state and local taxes on the core workshop period (September 12-14) and reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please make your hotel reservation at the conference rate of $199/night and then contact Centennial Conferences via email (amba@centennialconferences.com) to request the government rate of $147 per night.  If a hotel room is available at the government rate, you will be notified and the rate of $199 will be changed to $147.  If a hotel room is not available, you will be placed on a waiting list and notified if a room at the government rate becomes available.  As always, your U.S. government ID must be presented upon check-in in order to receive this rate.

For reservations, call 1-800-542-6096 and identify yourself as a participant of the Association of Military Banks of America Fall Workshop.  Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa is a very popular destination so it is important that you make your reservation on or before Friday, July 30, 2010.  The group rate of $199.00 will be honored three days prior/post the official dates of the workshop based on availability.

You may also make your reservation on-line by clicking here.   Note that the AMBA Group Code has been entered on your behalf.  Should the on-line option not accept your dates (as may be the case when making a reservation for dates outside the official dates of the workshop), please contact the hotel at 1-800-542-6096 for assistance.

A deposit equal to one night’s sleeping room rate by a major credit card (Visa/MasterCard/ Discover/Amex) or a check is required to confirm your reservation.  You should receive a written or email confirmation within two weeks.  If you do not receive confirmation, please call 1-800-542-6096.

Reservations cancelled less than 72 hours prior to arrival date will be charged a fee equal to the first night’s room rate.  There is no early departure fee.

Check-In/Check-Out:  Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is 12:00 p.m. (noon).

What To Do

Fast Facts

Climate San Diego's climate is characterized by warm, dry summers and mild winters with most of the annual precipitation falling between November and March.  The average yearly temperature is 64°.

Taxes & Customary Tips:  Sales tax is 8.75%, hotel tax is 10.65%.  A reward for service, or gratuity, is common in the United States.  In restaurants it is customary to tip 15% of the bill or 20% for above average service.  Gratuities are not necessary in cafeterias with self-service.  At hotels and airports a $0.75 tip per bag or suitcase is customary for the bellboy or porter.  Taxi drivers are usually tipped 15% of the total fare.

What To Do While In San Diego:

Art and Culture:  San Diego Art + Sol says it all - arts, culture, and plenty of sunshine!  With two Tony® Award-winning theatres, museums, historic sites and monuments, music, public art, dance, film, galleries, missions and a multitude of other cultural offerings, San Diego is truly a year-round, vibrant cultural destination.

Attractions:  You can visit the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, and Del Mar Beach, all within 27 miles of Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa.

Shopping:  San Diego is the ideal place for retail therapy. Enjoy the warm sunshine while you hit up the shops at one of the many outdoor shopping centers located around the county, or stay cool in the shade as you browse through exclusive stores.  San Diego has it all - from luxury boutiques to bargain antiques.  Regardless of what you're looking for, this city makes it easy to find your heart's content.

Sports Activities:  San Diego's ideal climate and diverse topography encourages year-round recreation opportunities for visitors and residents.  The region has more than 70 miles of coastline to explore, and many great locales to experience sports and recreation in the great outdoors.  Action sports are prevalent among locals, and San Diego has produced such legends as Tony Hawk and Shaun White.  The cheerful atmosphere and moderate temperatures allow San Diegans to embrace an active, healthy lifestyle, full of surfing, sailing, skating, hiking, biking, and more.

Boating:  Pick up anchor and sail the waters around San Diego to see the spectacular sights of the city from a whole new view.  Set sail and enjoy a variety of sea excursions including sight-seeing and whale watching, or relax and enjoy the pristine a leisurely trip around San Diego Bay or even a moonlit dinner cruise.  Experienced sailors have the option of renting a boat and charting their own course, and less experienced landlubbers have plenty of lesson options to get them familiar with boating before embarking on their sea-bound journey.

Hiking:  The San Diego Sea to Sea Trail Foundation is taking the hiking experience a step further, leading a drive to dedicate 140 miles of trail from the Salton Sea, a desert wetlands with a high degree of salinity, all the way to the Pacific.  Along the way, hikers will experience climate zones ranging from desert heat to mountain cool to coastal bluster.  Birds like eared grebes, brown pelicans, red-tailed hawks and great blue herons will showcase the diversity of the journey, as will the ever-present sight (or not) of mule deer, coyote, bobcat, and indigenous rattlesnakes.  Hiking San Diego is an adventure, through and through.

Surfing:  On any given day, summer or winter, rain or shine, you can find people out enjoying the San Diego surf.  For many locals surfing is a way of life, as much a part of their daily routine as a morning run is to other athletes.

Tourism:  See San Diego in a new light while enjoying a tour or sightseeing event.  Boats, trolleys and segaways are just a few examples of the unique ways to get an in-depth glance of the beauty and history of the city.  Spend a spring morning aboard a whale-watching vessel to see magnificent marine life up close, find the best bird watching spots and learn about over 480 species observed around the county, or go brew hopping where you can tour a brewing facility, try unique beer samples, and take your favorites home with you.  Tours and sightseeing trips are available year-round in all parts of San Diego and perfect for a memorable day trip with friends or loved ones.

Visit http://www.sandiego.org/nav/Visitors for all current information about specials, culture, current events, flight schedules, festivals, sports activities and shopping.
