OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES / OF SPECIAL INTEREST

Day Tour #1: Legacy of the Land Tour

On Monday, September 17, 2007 the AMBA Workshop offers a full day excursion which will allow you to discover the city and its history with a special focus on the Biltmore Estate, a historic landmark in North Carolina.

You will start the day at the Biltmore House for an unforgettable self-guided tour.  Here you can discover the grandeur of the 225-room mansion built by George Vanderbilt in the late 1800s.  View the incredible display of house furnishings, sculptures, paintings, books and other treasures collected from around the world.  Audios are included.
You can also have a self-guided tour of the Gardens at the estate.  There are ten acres of spectacular gardens.  Explore the seven garden areas from the Estate’s English Walled Garden, said to be the finest in America.
For lunch you will eat an all-inclusive buffet at the Deerpark Restaurant, and afterwards you will depart for the Legacy of the Land Tour which takes you back into time with a 90 minute mini coach tour that includes intriguing stories on estate life prior to the construction of Biltmore House.  History comes to life as a trained guide points out where historic structures stood and how the land was used prior to the Vanderbilt’s arrival.  It is a leisurely tour that offers the opportunity to stop and explore points of interest on the Estate.

Day Tour #2: Funky Junque Tour

On Tuesday, September 18, 2007 the AMBA Workshop offers another full day excursion which will allow you to shop and comb the eclectic but classy and cool shops that dot the mountain landscape.  Featuring a unique collection of gifts, antiques, retro furniture and much more.  Enjoy a spot of tea or maybe a glass of wine as you peruse the ever changing treasures found along the way.

Transportation and a guide will meet you at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa in the morning, and return late afternoon.

Golf Outing

On Sunday, September 16, please join us for a golf outing at Reems Creek Golf Course.  This most unique mountain golf experience is located only minutes away from the Grove Park Inn, in a beautiful valley completely surrounded by the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains.  The Reems Creek Golf Club, designed by Hawtree and Son of Oxford, England, offers a Scottish Highland look with its rolling terrian and large knolls which bisect the beautifully manicured bentgrass tees, fairways and greens.  Reems Creek Golf Club offers a secluded setting that captures the splendor and rustic beauty of the North Carolina mountains and was rated a 4 Star course by golf Digest’s “Places to Play.”

All participants are asked to meet in the lobby of the Grove Park Inn at 7:00 AM for transportation to the course.  The first tee time is scheduled for 8:30 AM.
